Why Online Businesses Fail

November 16, 2008

Online businesses fail mainly for three reasons. The first reason is due to a lack of support from mentors or sponsors. The second reason is lack of preparedness on the part of the person starting the business. The third reason is lack of effort on the person to create the business. Lets begin by discussing the first reason.

The first and by far most dominant reason online businesses fail is due to lack of support from the sponsor. Many people enter into a business and their sponsor is attentive to them only until the point that said sponsor has the money. After that the attention level goes down dramatically. When starting an online business you need to research your potential sponsor and take a look at exactly how involved he or she actually is in their clients success. You need to look for a sponsor that offers long term hand in hand mentorship. Appropriate sponsors deliver direct one on one guidance over a period of months, not a period of days. Without this type of direct guidance many online start ups fail miserably. They end up wasting their time and money simply because they were unable to receive the guidance they needed to succeed.

The second reason many online businesses fail is due to lack of preparedness. Many people get into online business with no marketing budget and expect in 30 minutes a day to receive thousands of dollars. This is impossible to accomplish. If you want to start into an online business and have very little to no marketing budget you need to be prepared to invest a lot of your time into working on free marketing. If you do have a marketing budget you can cut out much of that time, but you still need to be prepared to invest some time in learning what marketing is effective and what marketing is not. Overall someone who is beginning an online business needs to be prepared to invest the time it takes to make a business.

The third and by far most depressing manner in which online businesses fail is lack of effort on the person starting the business. When starting a business you must put effort into it. Sitting and thinking about success is never enough. You must go out and actually make the business happen. This reason for failure is the least common and clearly most avoidable.

Hopefully by reading this checklist you as a potential online entrepreneur will be able to avoid these pitfalls and start a potentially profitable online business like my Internet business .
